The Stationary Bike Isn't For Being *Stationary*: What My Gym Pet-Peeves Are Teaching Me For 2022:
I don't like being judgy.
But there are a few people at the gym with quirks I cannot abide. I'll actually get up and move machines to avoid being around:
*The guy who moans loudly throughout his stationary bike workout. (Not grunting with exertion, mind you. Moaning. Ew.)
*The woman with tons of thick, long, curly hair who doesn't put it up in a ponytail, even when she's dripping with sweat on the stairmaster. It's just too uncomfortable to watch.
*iPad guy. Oh, iPad guy:
I mean, I know they say 90% of any goal is just showing up, but you still have to do the remaining 10%, right?
But I recently came to a terrible realization:
In my own special way, I AM iPAD GUY. I lose track of time on the internet constantly.
I'll pop over to check one little thing for business on my iPhone, and suddenly I'm down a rabbit hole. I'll emerge with 3 new trivia facts and a great recipe for oatmeal cookies, but I won't even remember what I was looking for in the first place.
Can you relate?
As we set habits and intentions for 2022, one that I'm being very conscious of is time. I'm putting some boundaries in place around my technology use, and I can already feel the difference after a few days.
I'm getting more done. I'm more present in general. I'm switching my attention less.
Now I just need to work on my habit of being cranky and judgy first thing in the morning at the gym.
Are there any boundaries you want to put in place to enhance your time and attention this year?
What other hopes or plans are you making for 2022?
I'd love to hear more.
